Tanzania Telecommunications Company Limited (TTCL) was privatized on 23rd February, 2001, whereby a consortium of MSI of the Netherlands and Detecon of Germany acquired 35% shares of the company from the Government of Tanzania. The consortium took over both Board and Management control of the Company.
Apart from the shares acquired by the consortium, the rest have been allocated for Local Financial Institutions - 14%, International Financial Institutions - 10%, and TTCL Employees - 5%. The Government of Tanzania retains ownership of 36%.
Company Structure
Following its privatization, the Company's structure was reviewed to allow TTCL to be more responsive to the telecommunications business and the competitive environment in which it now operates, and customer service focused to meet the changing requirements for our current and future customers.
The policy and general guidelines on the Company's activities are provided by a Board of Directors, while authority to conduct the business of the Company with the broad policy and guidelines is vested on the Chief Executive Officer.
