History of Swissport Tanzania

Incorporated in 1984 as Dar Es Salaam Airports Handling Company Ltd (DAHACO) with Air Tanzania holding 65% shares, Scandinavian Airline System 15%, Swedfund AB 10% and IFU 10%. Became operational at Mwalimu J.K. Nyerere International Airport (Then Dar Es Salaam International Airport) on 1st .October, 1985 Extended its operations to Kilimanjaro International Airport in 1990. Temporary operations at Zanzibar International Airport for one year in 1992 Inaugurated a modern Perishable cargo handling facility at Kilimanjaro International Airport in April, 1999. Privatized in May 2000. Swissport International acquired 51% shares and the Government of Tanzania 49% shares. Inauguration of a city centre liaison office at the Haidery Plaza in early 2001. Certified under ISO 9002 Quality System in September 2001 following the audit conducted by TUV of Germany. Listed at the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange in June 2003 after the heavily oversubscribed IPO, whereby the government sold it 49% stake to the public. On October 1st 2005 the company changed the name from Dar Es Salaam Airports Handling Company Ltd to Swissport Tanzania Ltd in order to gain advantage of "SWISSPORT", a globally known brand.
